Our base
Our London base for this visit was relatively unusual: the Holiday Inn Express, Limehouse. It certainly didn’t represent IHG at its finest: the neighbourhood was slightly dodgy, it was a basic, ‘Mark I’ example of the Holiday Inn Express concept, and observations over the course of our stay led us to believe that – on some dedicated floors – the bills may have been getting paid by either national or local government. What the property did offer, however, was spectacular value for money. No doubt partly due to Covid-19, we paid a staggeringly low rate of £32.50 per night, between two. I challenge anyone to find a better deal at a major-chain hotel located within a four-mile radius of Trafalgar Square!
West End stroll
On Sunday morning, following a bus ride through the City on Route 15, we took a stroll in glorious sunshine through some familiar parts of London’s West End.
At the V&A
We spent Sunday afternoon in South Kensington, visiting the Victoria and Albert Museum, better known as the V&A. Although the V&A is the world’s largest museum of art and design, my one previous visit was looking fairly sad alongside my record of multiple visits to the nearby Natural History and Science museums. It was clearly time to address the imbalance.
