On the morning of 3 Feb, the final day of Bruce’s winter visit to Edinburgh, we walked the short distance from my flat to the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. More specifically, our objective was Modern Two, the building on the eastern side of Belford Road. Formerly the Dean Gallery, Modern Two’s palatial appearance belies its relatively humble origins as an orphanage. Today, it was hosting a popular visiting exhibition featuring the work of American animator and special effects creator Ray Harryhausen (1920-2013).
