July 2022: Two-Centre Sweden: 2. Stockholm

Journey and Arrival

Our rail transfer between Sweden’s second city and its capital took just over three hours.

City Hall – Gamla Stan

The following day, having arrived at City Hall by walking from our hotel, we spent the rest of the morning on Stockholm’s central islands, home to the city’s picturesque Old Town (Swedish: Gamla Stan).

‘Mainland’ Stockholm (Östermalm & Slussen)

After a solid morning’s sightseeing, we were both keen to have lunch at the excellent Östermalm Market, which we had previously experienced in 2014. Later, we briefly revisited the central islands, this time as a convenient walking route to the district of Slussen. This had been our base in 2014, but today’s objective was the Fotografiska gallery.

Lunchtime deluge!
Homeward Bound

Unlike our originally booked outbound to Gothenburg, the return flight from Stockholm in BA’s Club Europe cabin survived the schedule-shuffling intact. Having said that, we came perilously close to missing it, thanks to a quite horrendous queue for Schengen-to-non-Schengen exit processing at Stockholm Arlanda. No wonder a stiff drink was called for after take-off!
