At this point, the sightseeing was over and all that remained was to get home. One of the reasons for choosing Paris as the end point of our intercontinental tickets – apart from the fact that it is one of the greatest destinations in the world! – was that each of us could then complete his respective journey home via a simple, straightforward hop on easyJet. (Some might observe that “simple and straightforward” is not a description that readily applies to the rest of this trip!)
For me, this meant a direct flight to Edinburgh, leaving from a surprisingly modern and well appointed part of Charles de Gaulle airport.
Looking back on the trip as a whole, a few standout memories spring to mind:
- my excitement at spending a couple of hours in central Amsterdam, after arriving in my first foreign country of 2021!
- an excellent performance by Finnair, including short-haul, the Helsinki transit experience and long-haul;
- continuing excellent standards at the American Airlines Flagship Lounge at JFK airport;
- San Diego, possibly one of the USA’s most underrated cities;
- San Francisco, a firm favourite despite continuing evidence of a serious homelessness problem;
- and of course, Paris – even in December!
And that was it – time to wait until our next trip: 4 days!!
