March 2022: Wonderful Copenhagen (Part 2)

This is the second of two posts about our March 2022 visit to the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen (Danish: København).

Royal Palace and Marble Church

Amalienborg (1760), home of the Danish royal family since 1794, was originally built as a cluster of four freestanding homes for well heeled families. The attractive complex is situated between the Citadel and Nyhavn. A short distance away is the domed structure of Frederiks Kirke, better known as Marmorkirken (“The Marble Church”). Although a Lutheran church with a relatively modest footprint, the striking design is said to have been inspired by St Peter’s in Rome.

“Alternative” Copenhagen

On Sunday, we came across several aspects of the city that were, well, a little bit different.

The Market Halls

We made two separate, highly enjoyable visits to TorvehallerneKBH (“The Market Halls CPH”), which appeared to be a huge attraction for tourists and locals alike.
