April 2022: Edinburgh: The Queen’s Gallery: Masterpieces from Buckingham Palace

The Queen’s Gallery, Edinburgh is part of the Palace of Holyroodhouse complex. (Ticketing can be either combined or independent.) It is located at the corner of Horse Wynd and Abbey Strand, opposite the northeast corner of the Scottish Parliament. Dating from 1850, the building was originally Holyrood Free Church. When this closed in 1915, the building languished for years as a storage facility, before being refurbished and reopened in its current guise in 2002. Its purpose is to host a series of temporary exhibitions featuring works drawn from the Royal Collection.

Taking place in the year of the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, this exhibition aimed to show some of the Royal Collection’s finest paintings in a more modern and intimate setting. Highlights included works by Rubens, van Dyck and Rembrandt van Rijn.
