October 2021: Edinburgh: Pickering’s Gin Jolly

Pickering’s is a young gin brand, having been launched into a growing market as recently as 2014. Production takes place in Edinburgh at the company’s Summerhall Distillery, located near the east end of the Meadows. The fledgling brand achieved a level of national fame in 2019 when, in conjunction with British Airways, it produced a Centenary Gin to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the airline and its forebears. This product claimed to be the world’s first sky-high gin, botanically engineered to enjoy at 30,000ft.

During Bruce’s autumn 2021 visit to Edinburgh, we went along for an entertaining tour-and-tasting experience, marketed as a Gin Jolly. Summerhall, now principally an arts venue, was once the home of the Dick Vet School, and the current bar on the premises rejoices in the name The Royal Dick.
